Privacy Policy

The Crayon & Pencil ("the site") offers free printables and study tools for children and their families. It is directed to children, so it is built to collect as little as possible.

What we collect

Nothing that identifies you. There are no accounts, no sign-in and no forms. The site does not ask for a name, email address, age or location. Printables download directly; nothing is recorded about what you print. Spelling practice results appear on screen for the current session only and are never sent anywhere.

Microphone and speech

In the spelling bee trainer, tapping the microphone lets your browser's built-in speech recognition convert your voice to text so the spelling can be checked. The site never records, stores or transmits audio. Your browser may send audio to its own speech provider (for example Google, in Chrome) under that browser's privacy policy. Typing works everywhere, so the microphone is always optional.

Third-party services

• Dictionary lookups — definitions are built into the spelling trainer. When an example sentence is missing, the app may request one from the Free Dictionary API (dictionaryapi.dev) or Wiktionary. Only the word itself is sent.
• Optional online voice — if you select the "Online voice" option, the word or sentence is sent to Google Translate to generate audio.
• Fonts — loaded from Google Fonts.
• Advertising — this site shows ads from Google AdSense. Because the site is directed to children, every ad request is tagged for child-directed treatment, which disables personalized and interest-based advertising. Google may still use cookies or device identifiers to serve and measure ads; see how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Cookies and local storage

The site stores a copy of its pages on your device (a service worker cache) so it loads quickly and the spelling trainer works offline. It sets no tracking cookies of its own.

Children's privacy (COPPA)

The site is directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone. Because no personal information is collected, there is nothing for a parent to review or delete. If you believe a child has provided personal information through this site, write to us and it will be deleted.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top will be updated. Material changes will be noted on the home page.
