About The Crayon & Pencil
Free printables and practice tools for children aged 3 to 14, made by one parent, updated every week.
This started with a spelling bee word list and a printer. Getting a child ready for a school bee, or keeping a five-year-old busy on a rainy afternoon, usually means hunting for a decent printable and wading through sites that want an email address first. This one does not. Everything is free, nothing needs an account, and no information is collected about whoever is using it.
What you will find
- Coloring pages — black-and-white line art for ages 3 to 8: animals, seasons, vehicles, letters and numbers. Sized for ordinary letter paper.
- Worksheets — math practice, handwriting, phonics and puzzles, each labelled with a grade range so you are not guessing at the level.
- Spelling bee trainer — an interactive tool that reads each word aloud like a spell master, gives the definition and an example sentence on request, checks the spelling, and shows what to practise again. Covers grades 4–6 and 7–9 and works offline once loaded.
How it is made
New printables go up weekly. Artwork and worksheet content are generated and then reviewed by hand before publishing — anything that is confusing, badly proportioned, or factually wrong gets thrown out rather than posted. The spelling bee word lists come from the San Joaquin County Office of Education practice lists, with definitions built into the app so they work without an internet connection.
This site is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or produced by any school district, the San Joaquin County Office of Education, or Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Using the printables
Print and copy them freely for your own children or your classroom. Please do not resell them, redistribute the files as your own, or repost them on another site.
Who made this
Built by Subhendu Patra, a parent and software architect, as a side project. If something is broken, a worksheet has a mistake, or there is a topic you would like covered, write to [email protected] — corrections are welcome and usually quick to fix.
